At Orchard Equine Retirement each horse's diet is customized to meet their dietary requirements as determined by consultation with our veterinarian, nutritionists from Blue Seal Feeds, and individual horse's owners who have extensive experience with their horse's personal dietary requirements.
Since we already feed a line of premium extruded feeds designed to address various metabolic and digestive issues often seen in retired horses, there is no need for additional charges above and beyond our Full Care Retirement Board rates.
Pasture turnout times are restricted for horses with dietary restrictions. We have successfully managed horses with a history of laminitis by limiting their pasture time to the time of day with the lowest grass sugar levels thus allowing the horse the pleasure of grazing at the same time significantly reducing their risk of recurrence.
Grazing muzzles are an option if needed.
